2015 HEARTIST COLLEAGUE - JULIA ALFECHE, SERVER, POPPY BRASSERIE
Originally from the Philippines, Julia has worked at Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise as a Server since 2008.
What was your first reaction to winning Star Colleague of the Year?
Wow! Words cannot describe how grateful I am for this, it was quite a journey getting here, along with me the other nominees. Now I finally got one of the best Christmas gifts ever – not just for me but also for my Poppy Family, and my loved ones back in the Philippines. I would like to say thank you to everyone who believed in my potential and those who supported me from the beginning.
What destination did you choose for your prize?
As I’ve said, this victory is not just about me and so I would like to share it with the people who matter most; my sons, who have yet to come to Canada. I am currently waiting on my citizenship but when I receive it; I hope to take them to all of the places of childish wonder. I am thinking of Disneyland in Hong Kong and Universal Studios in Japan, especially wizarding world of Harry Potter.
What do you find rewarding about your job?
At this point in my life, I have understood that serving comes naturally to me. I enjoy engaging with guest different guest, having interesting conversations and listening to their stories. Their reactions whenever I fulfill their requests never fail to warm my heart. I pride myself on delivering top-notch service that the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise has been upholding since the beginning. I am proud to represent a brand that empowers its people to be confident in their work- which is what it has done to me.
What does this award mean to you? On a personal level.
For me, it is not just a career highlight in my eight years in Lake Louise, but also a moment turned into a delightful memory. When I was standing on stage, in front of (approximately) five hundred and fifty staff and management; I have never been more proud to be a part of the Fairmont community and to be a Filipina. I will never forget this; It was and is glorious yet humbling experience for me. Now, as I continue to put my best foot forward I hope I can serve as an inspiration to my fellow colleagues and also to myself – to work harder and strive further. Keep your faith, fight for what you believe in and hold on to your dreams; they do come true! I know I still have so much to learn and huge responsibilities ahead of me. Thank you Fairmont and bring on the challenge!
